Music, languages and test prep

Three specialisms with very different rules

Enrichment and exam coaching are often grouped together, but they run on different logic.

Music lessons

Weekly, thirty to sixty minutes, and almost entirely dependent on practice between lessons. Ten minutes daily beats an hour on Sunday. Graded exams are optional and useful mainly as milestones. Ask about performance opportunities, which keep children engaged more than grades do.

Language learning

Frequency beats length: three short sessions a week outperform one long one. Conversation with a native speaker matters more than grammar drills after the first year. Group classes work well because language needs someone to talk to.

Test preparation

Time-boxed and measurable. A good programme starts with a diagnostic paper, targets the weakest sections, and uses timed practice under real conditions. Progress should be visible in scores within six weeks; if it is not, change something.

A shared rule

Ask any teacher what the student should be doing between sessions and how long it should take. A clear answer is the single best sign of a good one.
